John M. "Marty" Thompson - President, Principal/Consultant

Mr. Thompson was born in Odessa, Texas in 1976. He attended Permian High School, graduating in 1994. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2000 with a Major in Business and Minors in Mass Communications, Psychology, and Archaeology. After graduating MTSU, he worked at John McDougall Company for 3 years, where he was the Purchasing Manager for the entire company (negotiating and purchasing most of the steel used to build Heinz Field in Pittsburgh). He joined STA Benefits, Ltd. in April of 2003 where he first served as Marketing Assistant, then Account Representative, and became a Principal and Consultant in 2007. He succeeded his father, Steve, as President of Management in 2013. Mr Thompson has held seminars for clients and the community on COBRA changes, long term care, Health Care Reform, and small business strategies at UT of the Permian Basin (UTPB). He conducted a COBRA seminar for the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants on the ARRA Act of 2009. He has also presented his creative marketing strategies at many industry conferences by request, including NFP and Blue Cross Blue Shield national sales conferences across the years. Mr. Thompson volunteers and sponsors many local charities. Mr. Thompson is a founder and active supporter of the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center. His hobbies include musical performance and sound engineering, and has published four albums distributed worldwide. Mr. Thompson's management and client development guidance has led STA to be Gold industry partners with multiple A++ insurance companies nationwide, and has more than doubled the size of the firm since becoming Principal in 2007, and it continues to thrive and grow!

Kara M. Thompson - Vice President, CFO & Operations Manager

Kara joined the firm in July of 2013 to assist with financial obligations & daily business practices. Today, she is an integral part of the firm, assisting in all things finance, HR, quality control, and an overall vision for our client's satisfaction. Prior to joining STA, she worked as CFO for a busy doctor's office in Murfreesboro, TN for seven years. Mrs. Thompson graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1999 with a B.S. in Psychology. Mrs. Thompson served on the Hillander School board for two full terms, and is an active Member of the Midland Symphony Guild.
